TVR 070, Media Criticism Assignment

Select an episode of any hour-long television series (no made-for-TV movies) and fill out the following worksheet. It does not have to be a series currently in production. It will probably be helpful if it is a series you are familiar with and you may want to record the selected episode to aid in your analysis.

This assignment will be presented orally to the class in 2 minutes or less, so no special formatting is required for the worksheet, which will not be turned in.

No evaluation form will be used for this assignment. All students making a presentation on the assigned day will receive full credit. Students unable to make the presentation as scheduled must present a written excuse in accordance with University guidelines to be allowed to present at a later time.

Plot
1. Describe the plot in one or two sentences.

2. Identify and describe the protagonist.
3. Identify and describe the antagonist.

Rhetorical Critique.

1. Were there clearly definable A, B and C plots?
2. Describe how music, SFX, lighting, and cutting rhythm are used to impact the audience.
