Around Dutchland, December, 2002

by Penny Pyrbred

Penny's European correspondents have been a bit slow with their reports and Penny has just learned that Penn-Dutch's own Dave Simon handled a European Pyr at the French National and took BEST IN SHOW! We hope to have an article giving more details of this phenomenol achievement in an upcoming edition.

Also from across the pond, Penny has learned that the UK has finally added pets from the US and Canada to its pet passport plan, allowing us Yanks to bypass the dreaded 6-month quarantine. Just be sure to get all the details from your vet or from the Web site of the UK Dept. of the Environment.

In news from closer to home, Karl Edinger led a small band of Penn-Dutchies who joined the Gress family in participating in the Allentown Halloween Parade.

December brought the fantastic Holiday Party at the Kiwanis Lodge in Lancaster Central Park. Gail Hillard arranged for the beautiful facility while Maureen Simon coordinated the food and other essentials. Dylan Simon did much of the heavy work in setting up the hall, assisted by Bergy, proving we Pyrs are still working dogs!

The beautiful Elle, being fostered by Barb Bowes, dressed up in her finest Christmas outfit to charm the crowd.

The highlight of the Party was the devious Chinese Gift Exchange, which, with careful Pyr supervision, went very smoothly.

Before you know it, January will be here and Penny hopes to see lots of Penn-Dutchies and their Pyrs at the Canine Learning Experience on Saturday, January 25th from 9 am until 4 pm. This is always a great opportunity to help educate the public about our breed and to learn about all things canine.

Have a wonderful Holiday season and a very Happy New Year!
