Crew Responsibilities for Multi-Camera Productions

Asst. Director ("above the line" position):
l. Assists the director as required.
2. Follows the script.
3. Keeps time. (20 sec. countdown)
4. May call shots in tech. standards.
5. Responsible for starting on time.

(NOTE: all technical positions below are "below the line" positions)

Tech. Director: Executes director's commands.

Audio Tech.:

l. Cues all music.
2. Works with floor manager to select mics and set levels. (Leave all pots down except when
getting levels or directed by the director.)
3. Pots mics and other audio sources using a script and following video commands as much as
possible. AUDIO Follows VIDEO!

CG Operator:
l. Gets CG disk & copy from director and verifies spelling, etc.
2. Types any new copy into the CG and prepares/updates the slate.
3. Changes pages, rolls copy, etc. as required.

Video Tape Operator:
l. Checks that VCR is set up correctly, with audio levels at -20 on the VCR and 0 VU on the audio board.
2. Starts tape in record.
3. Starts play-back machines on cue.
4. Stops record machine 10 secs. after program fades to black.

Floor Manager (the director's representative on the floor):
1. Gives talent time cues.
2. Works with audio tech. to select mics.
3. Places mics on talent and insures that cables are long enough for talent movement.
4. Hides cables.

Grip:
l. Helps the producer dress the set.
2. Turns on and aims lights as necessary.

Camera Operators:
l. Set up camera ahead of time (make sure all locks are off).
2. Follow director's commands or shot sheet.

Prompter Operator:
1. Gets prompt disk & file title from Producer.
2. Loads script file.
3. Operates prompter to keep up with talent.
4. Removes script file from memory at end of production.
