TVR 510, Studio Project

Each student will prepare and produce an instructional/ informative program approximately 5 minutes in length. It may be on any subject and use any media aids desired as long as it is packaged on video tape. Outside talent may be used, but the student is responsible for this talent meeting the taping schedule.

It is recommended that this project be kept simple, however consideration in grading will be given to the complexity of the project. Do not attempt a production beyond the capabilities of the facility or personnel.

Taping outside of class time will, in general, be very limited because of demands upon equipment and facilities. Strict adherence to the taping schedule must be required. Makeup time can only be made available for equipment problems or the most unusual of circumstances.

This project must be accompanied by a detailed treatment including at least the following elements:

1. Title of the program.

2. A brief description of the program in one short paragraph.

3. The goal or goals which the program will help meet.

4. The target audience and entry level.

5. The specific objectives (stated in correct behavioral terms) which the program seeks to accomplish.

6. The aids which will be used such as models, graphic cards, slides, or video tape inserts.

7. A facilities list including all equipment items required to produce the program.

8. The means of evaluation. For instructional programs, a written test must be provided. For other types of programs a detailed description of your evaluation procedure must be included.

9. A script with as much camera direction as possible.

10. A rudimentary floor plan with basic light plan.

The treatment must be neatly typed, on 8 1/2" by 11" paper. It will count 10% of the course grade, so put some time into it. You seldom get a better product out of the studio or editing suite than the ideas and organization you brought in.
